What folks are saying about MAIA:
Thank you for the incredibly useful services you provided. We couldn’t have done it without you!
As much as I was overwhelmed at first with all of the changes that you suggested, it was so great to be able to talk with a queer-competent, positive, knowledgeable, woman-friendly source.
The recommendation for my partner to take responsibility for managing the food changes was huge. Definitely gave her a role, and was an incredible support for me. That choice and her willingness to do the lion’s share of the work to make it happen made overhauling my way of eating manageable.
It was great when you talked about me being “only 37”. So much of the information out there is so dire about being “over 35”, that it was great to feel young in that moment.
My partner and I have been meaning to write you for some time to thank you. We used your consulting services a few years ago and found it useful. We believe it was one of the essential tools we used to have our family. Today, we are the proud parents of a beautiful two year old girl. When asked how we conceived her, we refer people to you folks, regardless of their orientation. Again, many thanks.
Thank you so much for your help in getting pregnant and for continuing to offer the birth class. It really made a HUGE difference. We are constantly recommending you to friends we know who are trying to get pregnant.
Just thought I’d let you know that your suggestions really worked. Our first try after the first of the year, with about 3 months of incorporating your suggestions, was a success, and I am pregnant! We took a positive home test over the weekend, and I just got blood test results back yesterday.
What makes MAIA’s Childbirth Class for LGBTQ Families so fantastic?
This class provided a wealth of needed information for any birth, in an environment that nurtures queer families and fosters queer family community.
Kristin has the experience to address issues specific to queer families of all sorts. It’s not just about using neutral pronouns and terms (like “birth parent” instead of “mom”). She really understands the complexities of queer families, whether it’s specifics like co-nursing or broader issues like emotional dynamics. It’s also great to be in a room full of queer folks who understand my experience, so I feel like my queer specific questions are adding to the group’s experience rather than distracting or pulling the class off on a tangent.
It was great to be in an LGBTQ environment and feel like I got to hear others’ stories and share in this experience. It was different than being in a mixed group where I would feel less included. Thank you!
The class was a nice mix of nuts and bolts and experiential, interactive and reflective activities. It was a great experience—really got me to think through more things.
The class brought up issues that have proven to be tender and so critical to our family. Thank you!”
The instructor was incredibly attentive to the needs of individual group members as well as the group as a whole. A wonderful group experience that has helped me heal regarding issues of infertility.
This was absolutely a good experience for so many reasons. Kristin is a great teacher, the content is comprehensive and well-organized, and it was a fun, welcoming space.
MAIA’s class provides a safe, welcoming space for all types of queer family structures. As a gender variant pregnant woman, this class provided support and community that is often lacking in society at large
It was a great experience and just what I was looking for. I wanted to find a group of queer folks going through a similar process. I needed to voice fears and have time to ask questions in a non-judgmental space.
The instructor led material and group discussion opened my eyes to things I hadn’t even thought about related to the birthing process. An incredibly valuable class.
I appreciated how open Kristin was to the uniqueness and individuality of people’s experiences, particularly regarding gender and gender identity—and the experience of partners.
I really appreciated the blend between information, experience and exercise, and particularly the opportunity for us all to share our stories since it was cathartic and meaningful to share them in the context of queer community.
This class was an opportunity to find support and challenge myself and our relationship emotionally and physically.
The class was extremely valuable because of the content covered, interactivity, opportunity to share and talk about our unique lesbian family experience. Kristin was sensitive, diplomatic, informative, comfortable and engaging.
